Mercy Ehi Ebute (born 16 September 1982) is a Nigerian social impact leader, peace advocate, and the Executive Director of SING Nigeria (Sustainable Initiative for Nurturing Growth), a non-governmental organization dedicated to governance, development, and environmental sustainability, particularly within the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Early Life and Education
Mercy Ebute was born on 16 September 1982 in Benue State, Nigeria. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the National Open University of Nigeria. She also obtained a Master’s degree in Intelligence and Global Security from Baze University in Abuja, where she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field.
Career
Ebute began her career in Nigeria’s financial sector, working at First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Abuja. Her professional foundation in banking and corporate finance later informed her work in civil society, where she brought strategic and financial expertise to non-profit leadership.
She currently serves as the Executive Director of SING Nigeria, a non-profit organization established in 2008 and headquartered in Abuja. Under her leadership, the organization has promoted good governance, youth empowerment, gender equity, and environmental justice. SING Nigeria is particularly active in oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta, where it partners with local and international groups to support inclusive development and civic engagement.
Ebute has also led advocacy campaigns around electoral reforms. In early 2025, under her direction, SING Nigeria issued a public statement warning about the dangers of vote-buying, describing it as a threat to democratic integrity in Nigeria.
